Friday, Ann and I both took the day off work to get a long run in-- the day before she flew to Croatia for a two week vacation.

Ann used the
Trail Factor 50k course and modified it to start at her house and go down Holman, then take out the final up-and-down, and end up Birch back to her house. It was so different from our usual loops, with many added up-and-downs off Wildwood and Leif. Total elevation gain: nearly 5,000ft over the entire 31 miles.

It was tough, but glorious. It was a perfect day for running, too: the sun rarely broke through the clouds and trees, but it was warm enough to wear our cute skirts. Can't ask for more than that!

The best rock inscription, just off Nature Trail |
The funny thing about running 31 miles, rather impromptu, is that it feels just the same as running 22 (last week) or even four. The more I run, the more I realize that whatever distance you decide you're doing, that's where your body sets its expectations.

I'm going to miss Ann lots, but since she ran nearly 80 miles in the past week, she can use her vacation to its fullest and REST!
